Building communities for a safe Canning
24 September 2024

This October, the City of Canning’s annual Community Safety Month initiative will again aim to raise awareness and promote safety across various aspects of daily life, including home security as well as personal, business, and school safety.

The City will engage the community through a series of events and initiatives designed to share information and support a sense of community safety through the month of October.

Mayor Hall emphasised the importance of community involvement in safety initiatives, stating, "Community Safety Month is a time for our community to learn about community safety and with that, take proactive steps to ensure the safety of our homes, businesses, and public spaces. By increasing our own awareness, we are all contributing to a safer, more connected Canning”.

From 1 October to 3 November 2024, residents and local businesses are invited to complete the annual Community Safety Survey to have their say on safety concerns. Participants can go into the draw to win a $200 Visa gift card upon completion.

Other events and activities include the well-received Pet Photo Competition, Coffee with a Cop and Coffee with a Ranger sessions, Safe Plate Day, women’s self-defence classes, community safety pop-ups and Ranger Buddy appearances at various City events. The City’s Community Safety team will also be making an appearance at the vibrant Canning Show on Saturday 2nd November 2024.

Mayor Hall continued, "These events are designed to be informative, engaging, and, most importantly, inclusive. I encourage residents to attend these free events to learn about the importance of community safety and take advantage of the information that is available to them. We want everyone in our community to feel empowered to take part in building a safer Canning."
