Leisureplex Refurbishments

We are getting close to completing our renos at Cannington Leisureplex, with the Pool Deck on track for completion in early September. Once finished, we will carry out detailed cleaning and final checks before we open to  the public. Keep an eye on this space or our socials for the reopening date.

At Riverton Leisureplex, works are progressing well, and we expect to have the final completion dates confirmed in the coming weeks.

The Leisure Renovations are looking great, with the tiling going up in the Male and Female changeroom at Cannington Leisureplex. 

At Riverton Leisureplex, we have been working on the grouting in the Spa and have installed a much-needed new air-conditioning unit in the Wellness Area.

Our Leisureplexes are really starting to take shape and we are shifting from demolition work to installations, meaning that many of the spaces are starting to look more like their final forms.

Work is progressing well at our Leisureplexes, with the ceiling and lights having been completed in the Riverton Leisureplex Wellness Suite, opening the way for us to start work on the Program Pool.

At the Cannington Leisureplex, we are seeing great progress on the pool deck wall, the deck showers, and the male, female and accessible changerooms.

Refurbishment works at the Riverton and Cannington Leisureplexes are progressing according to schedule, and the renovations are really starting to take shape.

Renovations at the Cannington and Riverton Leisureplexes are progressing well. It has been a busy and noisy two weeks, as most of the project areas have been undergoing demolition in preparation for the next stage. 

The images below highlight the progress of the Riverton Wellness HVAC works, including the installation of ducting and the development of the outdoor compound.

Renovations are progressing on schedule, and over the next fortnight we will be working on the following:

Cannington and Riverton Leisureplexes

• Demolition

These works involve heavy equipment being used, so we will continue to experience construction noise.

We are into the second week of the Leisureplex renovations and things are tracking well. Contractors have completed:

Cannington and Riverton Leisureplexes

• Site possession completed.
• Hoardings have been erected.
• Site setup is complete.
• Isolations have been set up.
• Demolition works have begun.
• Plumbing pre-lay has commenced.

Riverton Leisureplex Wellness Suite

• Pools and balance tanks have been drained.
• Program pool liner has been removed.
• Chemical storage has been emptied.
• Asset inspections have been completed.

In February 2025, the City of Canning commenced renovations to the Cannington and Riverton Leisureplexes, making major improvements to the popular community facilities that welcome over 1.5 million visitors per year.

These are the first major renovations for the leisure centres, which are now over 20 years old, and will ensure that our centres retain their position as modern and welcoming fitness and recreational centres that serve City of Canning residents and visitors.

The works are expected to run from February through to September, and the City will endeavour to keep disruptions to services and customers to a minimum.

Areas affected by the renovations

Riverton Leisureplex

• The Wellness Suite will be closed from 3 February to September. During this time, we will be replacing tiling, grouting, spa blowers and jets in the spa pool, and the program pool filter and liner. We will also be refurbishing the Accessibility changerooms and installing a new, improved HVAC system.
• The Aquatics Women’s and Family changerooms will be closed from 3 February to September for major renovations, including the addition of a new family/accessibility changeroom, showers and change cubicles. Customers can use the changerooms at the gym, Bill Cole Function Centre and F.I.I.T. Factory.

Cannington Leisureplex

• The Male, Female and Accessible Changerooms adjacent to the pool will be closed from 3 February to July for refurbishment, including the installation of new showers and toilet cubicles. Due to this the Wellness suite will be closed during the week, but will reopen for limited use from Fridays at 4pm to Sundays at 6pm. Customers can use the toilets and changerooms located at the gym.
• The Concourse area on northern side of the 25-metre pool, from the accessible changerooms to the end of the pool, will be boarded up and access will be limited as we refurbish the tiled wall that had sustained water damage.
