Plan your visit

Planning an excursion to the Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC) is easy. Please familiarise yourself with the following information when doing so.

Parking

CREEC has ample free bus and car parking directly outside the centre for your use.

Getting to CREEC

CREEC is located at the historic Kent St Weir on the banks of the Canning River. Transport to and from CREEC is to be arranged by the school. Please note public transport facilities are limited due to its location within the regional park. The closest train station is Cannington. For journey planning from your school by bus, visit the Transperth journey planner website. Schools located close to CREEC can access the centre via sealed pathways. Contact staff prior to your visit to assist with your walking route.

Additional facilities

CREEC has a public gallery for general viewing at any time during opening hours of Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Students can view taxidermy specimens, touch tables, displays and live animal exhibits.

Adjacent to CREEC is a large grassed area with shady trees on the banks of the Canning River. With free electric BBQs, schools can have lunch and play games here. A public playground is close by in which students can access with adult supervision. 

Toilets

There are public toilets near the car park adjacent to CREEC available for student use under adult supervision. There are also toilets inside CREEC which students can use. Both toilet blocks have universal access.

Supervision of students

CREEC staff and volunteers are not responsible for the supervision or behaviour of students, so close supervision of students is essential at all times. Please refer to CREEC's Excursion Management Plan for supervision recommendations:

What to bring

We strongly recommend students wear closed-in shoes, hats and bring a re-fillable water bottle. In wet weather, students should wear rain jackets. We also encourage schools to support sustainable action by bringing waste-free lunches. We have worm stations on site that students can add compostable lunch material to. Wet weather

CREEC provides outdoor education and can adapt most activities in wet weather conditions. However, if extreme weather is forecast, contact CREEC up to 24 hours prior to discuss alternative excursion arrangements.

Pre-excursion site visit

All teachers are invited to tour the centre and related facilities prior to their excursion. Contact CREEC to make arrangements to meet and discuss your needs.
