Local Planning Schemes
As a local government, the City of Canning must ensure appropriate planning controls exist for land use through Local Planning Schemes.
These schemes set out the way land is to be used and developed, classify areas for land use and include provisions to coordinate infrastructure and development within the local government area.
Gazetted on 26 May 2020, the City's Local Planning Scheme No. 42 (PDF 2MB) provides statutory guidance for development including provisions, permitted uses and compliance matters.
On 19 October 2015, the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 came into effect. Schedule 2 of the Regulations should be read in conjunction with Local Planning Scheme No. 42. Where there is an inconsistency between Local Planning Scheme No. 42 and the Regulations, the provision of the Regulations applies. More information on these new Regulations can be found on the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage website.
