Housing Development Opportunities
The City of Canning has significant development opportunity, with public land available in high-demand areas – including Canning City Centre.
The Canning City Centre is growing rapidly, with the City’s regeneration program and the expansion of local businesses expected to lead to 10,000 new homes for 25,000 new residents. It is anticipated this will result in economic benefits of up to $2.2 billion in gross value.
This makes the development near the Centre an incredible opportunity. In the Centre and nearby Queens Park, there are substantial parcels of public land available for development, including on Cecil Avenue, Sevenoaks Street and Railway Parade. This land would be ideal for housing.

Housing Diversity Pipeline
The City's project links with the State Government’s Housing Diversity Pipeline, a $2.6 billion, four-year program to improve the quality and accessibility of social housing in Western Australia. Through the program the Government is streamlining access to public land.
Expressions of Interest
The State Government is now seeking Expressions of Interest for the Housing Diversity Pipeline (HDP) Round 2 (Rapid Divestment of Government Land).
HDP Round 2 will leverage the knowledge and expertise of the development industry to:
- identify the most suitable land that can be developed
- bring new residential land and housing supply to market in the quickest possible way.
Industry are invited to submit an Expression of Interest identifying suitable government owned land with a proposal to purchase and expedite development of the land for residential purposes.
The State will seek to negotiate the sale of land to Successful Respondents on the condition the land is developed in line with the successful proposals and is delivered within an agreed timeframe to ensure the acceleration of housing supply to market.
This is an exciting opportunity for industry to deliver housing in support of the State’s effort to ensure a future supply of diverse housing.
