Achievement grants
Achievement grants are now open.
Previously known as the Young People Fly High Grant.
The Achievement grant assists residents who have been selected to represent Western Australia or Australia, through a recognised peak state or national body or equivalent, as an athlete/participant in their chosen field of endeavour. This may include sports, arts or academic pursuits. Grants support costs towards uniforms, travel and accommodation expenses.
Achievement grant applications for the 2026/267 financial year are currently open to people residing in the City of Canning. Applications received from 23 June 2026 will be considered as part of the 2026/27 financial year, with payments commencing in July 2026.
The funding allocations are:
- Attendance within Western Australia – $100 (excluding GST)
- Attendance Interstate – $300 (excluding GST)
- Attendance Overseas – $500 (excluding GST)
Applicants may only receive one grant per financial year if selected to represent Western Australia and one grant per financial year if selected to represent Australia.
Applications must be received from either the athlete/participant or their parent or legal guardian. A third party cannot apply.
Grants will be allocated until grant funding is exhausted.
Eligible activities
Sport – Competitions where the applicant has clearly been selected through a competitive selection process by a peak body (for example a State or National Sporting Organisation).

The following activities are not eligible for support:
- Applications from a team (eligible individuals on a team must each apply).

- Events where there is no competitive selection process to qualify. For example, cultural exchanges, school/community tours ‘friendly’ matches and sports team tours (where there is no selection of placement by recognised state or national peak body).
- Opportunities, events and competitions that are offered as part of a development squad or pathway.
- Work and education placements, excursions and exchanges, activities which are part of the school or university curriculum or form part of academic assessment.
