METRONET

The State Government's METRONET project is WA's largest public transport program in recent history.

The project involves the laying of approximately 72 kilometres of new passenger rail and creation of up to 18 new stations with a budget of $4 billion dollars.

Within the City of Canning, there are two major METRONET projects occurring:

Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal

The Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal project involves the removal of six level crossings along the Armadale line to reduce congestion, increase safety, and eradicate waiting times at crossings.

Within the City of Canning, crossings at Welshpool Road, Hamilton Street and Wharf Street will be removed. Plans for their removal and further details can be found on the METRONET website.

The second Development Application for this project has been lodged with the City of Canning. The Development Application relates to the Queens Park and Cannington Train Stations, Station Precincts and Public Realm. The development application includes the following scope of works:

• Elevated train station at Queens Park, including ground level station entry and concourse.
• Queens Park Station passenger parking (including Park ‘n’ Ride and Kiss ‘n’ Ride parking).
• Elevated train station at Cannington, including ground level station entry and concourse.
• Bus interchange at Cannington.
• Cannington Station passenger parking (including Park ‘n’ Ride, Kiss ‘n’ Ride and staff parking).
• At grade Principal Shared Path (PSP) modifications to augment the existing PSP adjacent to Railway Parade.
• Public realm initiatives and improvements between the north abutment adjacent to Mills Street and the southern abutment adjacent to Grosse Avenue, incorporating construction of new civic spaces, community nodes, a playground, youth plaza, dog park, pathways and landscaping.
• Local road works and intersection modifications.

Thornlie-Cockburn Link

The Thornlie-Cockburn Link will be Perth’s first east-west cross line connection. It involves connecting the Mandurah and Armadale/Thornlie lines, with new stations built at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road.
