Committees of Council

Audit and Risk Committee

The Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC) is an advisory Committee established under Section 7.1A of the Local Government Act 1995 to provide advice to the Council on matters relevant to its Terms of Reference.

Members

The Local Government Act 1995 requires that an audit, risk and improvement committee consist of a minimum of three members, including an Independent Presiding Member and an Independent Deputy Presiding Member.  The current members are:

  • Mr Colin Murphy (Independent Presiding Member)
  • Ms Elsie Lee (Independent Deputy Presiding Member)
  • Mayor Patrick Hall
  • Deputy Mayor Mark Bain
  • Cr Michelle Hurn
  • Cr Linda Ross

Terms of Reference

The Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee’s role to assist the Council fulfil its governance and oversight responsibilities in relation to financial reporting, internal controls, risk management systems, legislative compliance, and the internal and external audit functions. The Committee’s Terms of Reference are under review due to the recent local government reforms.

Authority

The ARIC is a formal committee of Council. ARIC does not have executive powers or authority to implement actions in areas over which the CEO has responsibility and does not have any delegated authority.

Meetings

The Committee shall meet not less than three times a year with details of meeting dates available here.

Reporting

Reports and recommendations of ARIC are presented to the next available Ordinary Council Meeting.

CEO Performance and Salary Review Committee

The CEO Performance and Salary Review is a Committee of Council established under section 5.8 of the Local Government Act 1995. This Committee’s role is to undertake the annual performance and salary review of the City’s Chief Executive Officer and make recommendations for consideration by Council.

Members

In accordance with Council Policy, the Chief Executive Officer – Performance and Salary Review Committee will comprise the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and at least two Elected Members. Current appointed Members of this Committee are:

  • Mayor Patrick Hall
  • Deputy Mayor Mark Bain
  • Cr Ben Kunze
  • Cr Luke McCorkell
  • Cr Michelle Hurn

These Committee meetings are not open to the public as they deal with matters relating to the employment and performance of the CEO.  Minutes of the Committee Meetings are available here.
